Traditional & Starter Locs

#1 TIE DOWN WITH DURAG OR SCARF!

I know yall love the bonnets but they donโ€™t show no love here in this new journey ๐Ÿ™…๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšซ

Securing the hair with a durag/scarf will make sure your baby locs are set in place!

Try to only wear your durag/scarf when you are about to lay down or if weather permits (rain, snow, high humidity like conditions)

Once your locs mature, you can gradually start wearing bonnets in between Retwist to protect them from getting lint in them!

#2 AVOID GETTING THEM WET FOR THE FIRST 2-3 WEEKS (Fresh Install/Retwist)๐Ÿšฟ

To avoid unraveling, avoid getting them wet!

A light mist ( from spray bottle ) is perfectly fine! I use AS I AM JBC Water

#3 OIL SCALP 1-2 TIMES A WEEK ๐Ÿ’ง

Although some say oiling your scalp all day everyday is โ€œhealthyโ€, too much oil can cause build up in your baby locs.

Oils I personally recommend :

#4 THE NEXT RETWIST

I normally suggest all starter locs to be retwisted every 4-6 weeks, sometimes 8 weeks (depending on hair texture & style take down time) for the first 3 appointments to create a pattern with your new babies, so they can get with the program lol.

Micro Locs

#1 DO NOT BE DISCOURAGED BY THE UNRAVELLING!!

In the early stages of micro locs, in some cases, the locs around the perimeter unravels. ๐Ÿ’ฉ happens lol. ITS NORMAL I PROMISE!

#2 (6-8 WEEKS) FOR RETIES

Make sure you're trying to build a consistent schedule to get your micros retied! When going over 8 weeks, things you want to avoid happening to your locs are:

  • Breakage

  • Thinning

  • Combining of multiple micro locs

  • A painful/uncomfortable appointment

#1 Slipping

Keeping up with Loc Reattachments may take a little more than a crochet needle to actually Matte the hair! Slippage is totally normal! Just like with Starter Locs, its a journey thatโ€™ll take a little time to actually mature and repair back to normal!

IF YOU DEAL WITH FLAKY SCALP, THIS MAY HELP!
